Tammy Helart- Jewelry Artist

I have always had the need to create something. I have been an artist in one form or another for my whole life. I have painted in watercolors, acrylics and oils, quilted with fabrics, created mosaics and drawn with pen and ink, but for now, my passion is making artisanal one of a kind jewelry.

I am an active member of:

Boulder Metalsmithing Association

Prospect Artists Association

I've always been an artist of some sort.

The jewelry portion of my artistic career started with one class years ago, I was hooked. I began with simple stringing beads and progressed from there, driving me to learn silversmithing skills and to search out stones and expert stone cutters who could provide me with what I wanted to fulfill my vision.

I love the beautiful natural stones that can be made into beads or cabachons for one of a kind artisan jewelry.  When I design a piece, I start with the stone and I design the bezel, setting and chain to display it.  Many people believe the stones each have their own metaphysical properties and can affect the wearer.

I truly believe the stone should be the focal point of my jewelry. So I am always looking for a stone with something “different” to offer to a customer. Something that calls to the individual that says “That’s me!”.

I was raised in northern New Mexico.  The United States Southwest, the culture and art that define that region are part of my DNA.  I can't help but be drawn to Turquoise, Jasper, Labordorite, Larimar, Red Corral, Kyanite and many more, but the world is full of beautiful stones so I work with stones from all over the world, each purchased directly from a skilled stone cutter.

Silver, Gold and Copper provide the material I need to design and craft custom bezel settings for each stone.  Any finished piece is actually a work in progress because the patina on the metal will continue to evolve.
